	Being in Italy exceeded my expectations in goodwill, good food, beautiful towns and countryside. Living and traveling in Italy has contributed life to my paintings. The layers of culture, the serenity of the land, and the hearts of the people have enriched and transformed my life and my painting. I am interested in "zones of transformation."
	GALLERIA ORESTE MARCHESI Copparo - Italy 2002 This exhibition brings together visible forms through which this subject emerges in my painting. Where elements meet, physical, ideological, or metaphysical change can take place. Sky touches earth, creating home for humans, plants, animals. Doorways and arches mark life transitions through experiences, ideas, and hopes - joining past with future. Trees bridge earthly and heavenly realms, uniting spirit (air) and matter (earth). Birds, and the wind, bring messages without words. For me, painting is a zone of transformation, weaving known and unknown, abstract and real, individual and universal. When I begin a painting, I do not know what the final form will be. With color and gesture, layers of paint and decisions are built up like the layers of humanity and ideas on top of which we live. This process brings me images and ideas I have not seen or thought of before, altering conditions for the next decision.
	INTRODUZIONE DELL'ARTISTA Sono arrivata in Italia tre anni fa. Le mie aspettative di trovare cordialità, buon cibo, belle città e paesaggi sono state ampiamente superate. L'insieme delle diverse civiltà, la serenità del paese ed il cuore della gente hanno arricchito e trasformato la mia vita ed il mio modo di dipingere. Questa esposizione mostra alcune forme visibili attraverso le quali emergono i veri soggetti della mia pittura. Mi interessano le "zone di trasformazione", dove gli elementi incontrano i cambiamenti fisici, ideologici o metafisici. Il cielo bacia la terra creando l'ambiente ideale per l'uomo, le piante e gli animali. Gli ingressi e gli archi segnano i periodi di transizione della vita attraverso le idee, le speranze e le esperienze. Impariamo da un uccello o dal vento. Gli alberi collegano il regno terreno a quello celestiale, unendo spirito (aria) e materia (terra). Per me la pittura è una zona di trasformazione, un intreccio tra ciò che è conosciuto e l'ignoto, l'astratto ed il reale, l'individuale e l'universale. Quando inizio non so come saranno le forme e gli elementi del dipinto terminato. Usando un metodo per tentativi, aggiungendo e togliendo, costruisco strati, come quelli dell'umanità e delle idee in cima ai quali viviamo. Gradualmente, e spesso dopo un lungo periodo di tempo, il dipinto, come la vita, mi porta oltre le mie previsioni. Che percorso interessante!
